World Anaesthesia Day commemorates the birth of anesthesia on 16th October 1846. When doctors at Massachusetts General Hospital demonstrated the use of ether for the first time on a patient.
Definition of General Anesthesia
General anesthesia is reversible and consists of a triad of unconsciousness (hypnosis), analgesia (no reflex to pain), and muscle relaxation (no movement). It depresses central nervous excitability through modulation of normal ion-channel function.
