Vocal Cord Paralysis

  • Types: Unilateral or bilateral, congenital or acquired
  • Associated Conditions: Central nervous system abnormalities (Arnold Chiari syndrome) or cardiovascular anomalies

Symptoms

  • High-pitch inspiratory stridor

Treatment

  • Tracheostomy in severe cases
  • Spontaneous recovery in half of the patients within a year
  • Surgical intervention after one year:
    • Vocal cord lateralization,
    • arytenoidectomy,
    • laser cordotomy
