I. Care of the Eye

Prevents or treats corneal abrasion or ulceration.

  1. Artificial Tears: During the day.
  2. Eye Ointment: During sleep.
  3. Sunglasses

II. Medical Treatment

Must be initiated within the first 3 days.

  1. Corticosteroids: Prednisolone at 1mg/kg body weight/day, tapered over 10-15 days to reduce nerve edema.

  2. Acyclovir Tablets: For one week (supports viral etiology).

III. Surgical Treatment

  • Decompression of the Nerve: Via the middle cranial fossa approach.

  • Indication: More than 90% degeneration within 3 weeks as shown by ENOG.
