Panic Attack

A discrete period of intense fear or discomfort in which four (or more) of the following symptoms develop abruptly and reach a peak within 10 minutes:

  • Shortness of breath or smothering sensations
  • Dizziness, unsteady feelings, lightheadedness or faintness
  • Palpitations or accelerated heart rate
  • Trembling or shaking
  • Sweating
  • Feeling of choking
  • Nausea or abdominal distress
  • Depersonalization or derealization
  • Numbness or tingling sensations (paresthesia)
  • Flushes (hot flashes) or chills
  • Chest pain or discomfort
  • Fear of dying
  • Fear of going crazy or of doing something uncontrolled
