Intraventricular Hemorrhage
It is a predominant disorder of preterm infants. It originates in the periventricular subependymal germinal matrix with subsequent entrance of blood into the ventricular system.
Symptoms
- Apnea
- Bradycardia
- Acidosis
- Seizures
Diagnosis
Ultrasonography through the anterior fontanelle.
Risk Factors
- Extreme prematurity
- RDS
- Ventilated preterm infants
- Seizures
- Sudden elevation of arterial BP
Complications
- Hydrocephalus
- Developmental impairment
- Cerebral palsy
- Seizures
