- (56 marks) MEQs Modified Essay Questions (Clinical Case Scenarios)
- What is the most likely diagnosis (or DDx)? 2 Marks
- What is the evidence for this diagnosis?

- Lifetime prevalence of mental disorders is 33% in the general population &
- 42% in patients with chronic medical conditions.
- 30-60% of inpatients with short-term medical or surgical conditions also present with a psychiatric condition.
- Patients with schizophrenia or bipolar disorders may die 15 years younger than the general population due to higher medical co-morbidity.
- Medical costs are twice as high in depressive patients, requiring seven times more frequent emergency services.

- Solution: Smart Simulation, Al Maarefa Simulation Centre.
- Training on clinical and psychiatric skills can be delivered using a two-sided clinical scenario-based sessions.
- Simulated Psychiatric Patient experience was perceived by students as effective in reinforcing the goals of the curriculum.
- Further studies to document the effectiveness of this strategy in other clinical fields are needed.
