Conditions of RESP

Starting : remember Wiper

  • W ash hands (before and after)
  • I ntroduce yourself to the patient and seek his or her consent
  • P osition the patient correctly.
  • E xpose the patient as needed (e.g. ‘Please take off your shirt for me now, if that is all right’)
  • R ight side of the bed

The four cardinal methods

- Auscultation

Other examination

  • Signs of pulmonary HTN or corpulmonale.
  • Signs of SVC obstruction.
  • Signs of CA bronchus metastasis or extension.

Principles

Make Make sure good lighting is available. Position and expose Position and expose body parts so that all surface can be viewed. Inspect Inspect each area of size, shape, colour, symmetry, position and abnormalities. Compare If possible, compare each area inspected with the same area on the opposite side of the body.
