Sevoflurane

  • Advantages:
    • Low solubility in blood— produces rapid induction and emergence.
    • Pleasant smelling (suitable for children).
    • Has good bronchodilating properties.
    • Agent of choice in asthma, bronchitis, and COPD.
    • It has little effect on the heart rate.
    • Mild respiratory and cardiac suppression.
  • Disadvantages:
    • Carbon dioxide absorbents in anesthesia machines degrade sevoflurane to Compound A.
