Sevoflurane
- Advantages:
- Low solubility in blood— produces rapid induction and emergence.
- Pleasant smelling (suitable for children).
- Has good bronchodilating properties.
- Agent of choice in asthma, bronchitis, and COPD.
- It has little effect on the heart rate.
- Mild respiratory and cardiac suppression.
- Disadvantages:
- Carbon dioxide absorbents in anesthesia machines degrade sevoflurane to Compound A.
