Evaluation of the Dysphonic Patient

History

  • Dysphonia (hoarseness)
  • Onset, duration, severity, URTI, fever, cough, (voice abuse (job), tobacco or alcohol), dysphagia, aspiration, breathing difficulty, weight loss, GERD, trauma, previous surgery, neck mass.

Examination

  • Complete ENT examination
  • Laryngeal examination and voice assessments:
    • Indirect laryngoscope (mirror)
    • Direct laryngoscope
    • Fibreoptic flexible scope
    • Stroboscopy
    • Acoustic analysis
  • Cranial nerve examination
  • Neck examination
