  • Leprosy is a chronic, systemic infection characterized by progressive cutaneous lesions.

  • It’s caused by Mycobacterium leprae.

  • Attacks cutaneous tissue and peripheral nerves, producing skin lesions, anesthesia, infections, and deformities.

Types of Leprosy & Antileprotics

  • Tuberculoid leprosyx: DAPSONE & rifampicin , drugs are continued for 6 months

  • Lepromatous leprosy: DAPSONE, Rifampicin & Clofazimine - treated for at least 2 years

  • Borderline leprosy: characteristics of both lepromatous & tuberculoid leprosies
