Orbital Cellulitis

  • 90% secondary to sinus disease
    • Decreased vision
    • Impaired ocular motility/double vision
    • Afferent pupillary defect
    • Proptosis
    • Optic nerve swelling

Management of Orbital Cellulitis

  • Admission
  • CT Scan.
  • Nasopharynx and blood cultures
  • Intravenous antibiotics
  • Surgery may be necessary to drain pus from the orbit and to tackle any sinus disease.

Complications of Orbital Cellulitis

High risk of morbidity and mortality

  • Loss of vision
  • Loss of motility
  • Ptosis
  • Orbital abscess
  • Brain abscess and meningitis
  • Cavernous sinus thrombosis
  • Septicemia
