Orbital Cellulitis
- 90% secondary to sinus disease
- Decreased vision
- Impaired ocular motility/double vision
- Afferent pupillary defect
- Proptosis
- Optic nerve swelling
Management of Orbital Cellulitis
- Admission
- CT Scan.
- Nasopharynx and blood cultures
- Intravenous antibiotics
- Surgery may be necessary to drain pus from the orbit and to tackle any sinus disease.
Complications of Orbital Cellulitis
High risk of morbidity and mortality
- Loss of vision
- Loss of motility
- Ptosis
- Orbital abscess
- Brain abscess and meningitis
- Cavernous sinus thrombosis
- Septicemia
