Respiration alkalosis
- Increase TRP
- Women are more affected
- Increase PH, decrease CO2, if correction started decreases HCO3
Causes :
- Anxiety--- hyperventilation--- washing up Co2.
- Hyperventilation
- Aspirin--- stimulate respiratory center--- initially respiratory alkalosis--- then metabolic acidosis.
- High attitude --- hypoxia--- hyperventilation.
- Hypoxia of any cause; due hyperventilation
- Pulmonary embolism---closed artery--- decrease ventilation and perfusion
- Pregnancy; increased tidal volume with increased RR
- Sepsis--- hypo ventilation— ((high anion gap??cc))
- Fever
Clinical features:
- Decrease blood flow to the cerebrum
- Headache
- Tetany
- Excitation
- Convulsions
- Parasthesia (due to tetany) decrease ca
- Chvosten sign
- Trousseau sign
- Increase tendon reflexes
- Increase TPR : fetal arrhythmia.
Treatment:
- Anxiety--- Breath into bag (increase co2 and breath it back.
- Hyperventilation——- breath in a container
- Aspirin--- dialysis
- Increase altitude--- descend and give acetazolamide ( metabolic acidosis)
- РЕ——— tissue plasminogen gene activator (AE: bleeding ) + not give in pregnancy (embolectomy).

Respiratory alkalosis
occurs when the lungs blow off excessive CO2.
Causes
- Hyperventilation (anxiety, mechanical ventilation)
- Salicylate toxicity stimulates respiratory centers in CNS
- Hepatic encephalopathy
- Hyperthyroidism
- Hypoxemia
- High altitude
