Oral Cavity Tumor

Premalignant Lesions

  • Types: Leukoplakia, Hyperkeratosis, Dysplasia, and Erythroplasia
  • Risk: Erythroplasia has a greater risk of malignancy.
  • Transformation: Malignant transformation is greater in smokers.
  • Treatment: Surgical or laser excision.
  • Prevalence: 95% are squamous cell carcinoma.

Risk Factors

  • Smoking (depends on dosage and type)
  • Alcohol
  • Tobacco chewing
  • HPV (subtype 16)
  • Mechanical irritation (dentures)
