As the sodium salt (SODIUM FUSIDATE (Fucidin), the drug is well absorbed from the gut and is distributed widely in the tissues. Some is excreted in the bile and some metabolised.
Topical - active against gram-positive bacteria & some gram-negative diplococci Good penetration into bone and pus. •
Unwanted effects such as gastrointestinal disturbances are fairly common. Skin eruptions and jaundice can occur. It is also used topically for staphylococcal conjunctivitis.
